Diana Sun

Diana was born in Taipei, Taiwan. At the age of 11, she immigrated to the US with her family, settling in the Bay Area. While in high school, she went to a local Chinese church’s evangelistic outreach, where she began attending weekly services and eventually accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. Diana earned her bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and upon graduating, began her career working for a non-profit agency in San Francisco serving the Asian immigrant community.
Two years into her non-profit job, Diana participated in a short-term missions trip to Mexicali with her home church in Oakland. While on this trip, she sensed the Lord’s calling to deepen her understanding of His Word and explore vocational ministry. She then gave up her career in San Francisco, enrolled at Biola University’s Talbot School of Theology, and completed a master’s degree in pastoral counseling.

After graduating from Talbot, Diana accepted a position with Biola’s BOLD degree completion program as their Orange County Campus Director, focusing primarily on academic counseling. She served in this position for almost three years before leaving to become a stay-at-home mom.

Diana met her husband Cary through attending the same church in SoCal during her years at Talbot. They got married in October 1995. They currently reside in South OC with their college-age son and daughter. Both children are considering full-time ministry once they complete their bachelor’s studies. They have been attending Saddleback Church together for the past ten years where Diana has volunteered with different ministries - most recently, as a storyteller.

In addition to her experience counseling students at Biola, God provided Diana many opportunities to use her pastoral counseling training in unofficial ways. She has met with individuals as well as couples for spiritual, emotional, marital, and premarital counseling needs.

In fall 2017, Diana faced a battle with cancer. By the grace of God, it was caught early and treated, and she is now undergoing regular monitoring. This has been a huge life lesson and faith-growing experience for her. Diana believes that God is calling her to use crises such as this, coupled with her pastoral counseling training, to help those in ministry who are hurting. She looks forward to coming alongside shepherds in our community during difficult times and offering them hope through her ministry at Standing Stone.
