Dr. Phil Yphantides

Dr. Yphantides earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine in 1997. He completed his Family Medicine residency at UCSD in 2000, serving as Chief Resident.  Since 2006, he has been with Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group (SRSMG) in San Diego, CA.  He currently serves as the Medical Director of the Department of Urgent Care, managing a staff of over 90 medical providers in addition to working in direct patient care. He served on his medical group’s board of directors 2011 to 2013 and is back serving on the board again since 2020. Dr. Yphantides and his team led the innovative urgent care outpatient response to the COVID pandemic, safely and efficiently managing over 150,000 symptomatic cases through the SRSMG urgent cares with newly created workflows and protocols. He has served as Physician Champion for the group’s successful quality programs in Hypertension and Diabetes management, as Chairman of the Clinical Guidelines Committee, Chairman of the Health Information Management Committee, and as an active participant on several other committees and workgroups at SRSMG. Dr. Yphantides has a contagious passion for improving the quality, efficiency, and empathy of care delivered to patients.  Prior to joining Sharp Rees-Stealy, Dr. Yphantides served as the Outpatient Medical Director of a network of Community Health Centers, serving the uninsured and low-income residents in the local area. He also served on the Board of Directors of another local network of Community Health Centers, helping to support this important work for the underserved in the San Diego area.

Dr. Yphantides and his wife, Betsy, have been married for 25 years, with three grown children. His hobbies include family time, mountain biking, swimming, camping, travel, and piano.
